Maruti Suzuki showcased the fouth-gen Jimny the grand successor of Gypsy in Feb 2020 auto expo. The mini off-road SUV has been exported to the Latin American market from India however the model has not yet been made available in the Indian automobile industry due to market parameters and feasibility that company needs to consider before the final decision of the launch. The top executives recently have revealed Maruti Suzuki’s plans for the launch of 3-door Jimny in India and the future initiatives about the 5-door variant of the model. The Indian consumer base looks forward to the Mahindra Thar direct rival Jimny with high anticipation.
Price
The expected price of the off-road mini SUV in India is Rs 7-11 Lakh.
Engine Specifications
The off-road SUV is expected to be powered by 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15B mild-hybrid petrol engine producing a maximum power output of 104.7 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque. The K15B engine are lightweight, compact, and fuel-efficient. Despite a small displacement, the K15B delivers strong low and mid-range torque maintaining excellent off-road driving and terrain capability.
The powertrain would be mated with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed torque converter automatic transferring power to all four wheels (AWD).
Interior
The Interior is expected to be equipped similarly as the global spec that include a seven-inch infotainment system with support for both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, and steering mounted controls.
The off-roader is expected to come equipped with a host of drive safety features including an electronic stability program (eSP), traction control (TC), hill-hold assist, hill descent control, and six-airbags ensuring supreme protection to its passengers.
Exterior
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is designed with superior off-road terrain capabilities like 210mm ground clearance, 49 degree departure angle, 37 degree approach angle, 28 degree rampover angle and water wading depth of 320mm.
The Jimny, in terms of exterior design, is boxy and old-school SUV with square lines, wide wheel arches and a high roof line. It is now sold only as a two-door model however the 5 door variant is being considered for India. The front has a 5 slot black grille with classic off-road model circular headlamps and rear has straight edges equipped with the spare wheel.
Maruti Suzuki has made a strong presence in the international market. The proven global record of its terrain and off road capabilities would give it a positive lead in the segment in India on its arrival.
