Maruti Suzuki Baleno Expected To Have Strong Hybrid Variant In 2021

The introduction of mild hybrid cars by the auto industry transformed the conventional defined efficiency of the pure ICE driven vehicles. The giant automakers like Maruti Suzuki launched wide range of vehicles with the smart hybrid technology. The 12V mild hybrid assembly with suitable transmission has eased the engine performance by provisioning required torque assistance in lower rpms and facilitated the utilisation of break energy regeneration. The 48V Strong hybrid system is a promising technology of the near future. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno is expected to have the strong hybrid variant.

Smart Hybrid Technology

The strong hybrid comes in Series-Parallel combination with the ICE unit of the vehicle. The vehicle can be powered by the internal combustion engine working alone, the electric motor by itself, or by both energy converters working together. Power distribution between the engine and motor is designed so that the engine can run in its optimum operating range as much as possible. The electric motor in strong Hybrid Variant of Baleno will be able to generate enough power to drive the vehicle for a very short range of around 25-30km. Unlike plug-in hybrid vehicles, there is no need to recharge the batteries in a Strong Hybrid vehicle.  The batteries will be recharged using the power that is generated while the car is driven. From the recent pictures of the trial vehicle run with the strong Hybrid assembly reveals that the rear wheels will be driven with assistance of this powerful unit.

The current Smart mild 12V hybrid variant is available with 1.2L Dualjet Dual VVT Petrol Engine which delivers a mileage of 23.87kmpl. The Delta and Zeta Dualjet Maruti Suzuki Baleno is priced at Rs 8.5-9.2Lakh.

The 48V Strong Hybrid will further enhance the mileage and performance of the current model. The introduction of strong hybrid variant in the upcoming model could be the top selling point of the highest sold premium hatchback in the country.
