The Ford and Mahindra Joint Venture are all set to launch their SUV segment models in 2021. The compact SUV by Ford which is expected to be launched by mid-2021 and Mahindra XUV500 by early 2021. The models are based on monocoque chassis platform which ensures improved vehicle’s stability and stiffness, W605 platform for Ford C-SUV and W601 for Mahindra’s XUV500.
Mahindra XUV 500 2021
Price
The expected ex-showroom price of the Mahindra XUV500 is Rs 13 Lakh.
Engine
The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will get the same powertrain as Mahindra thar i.e. a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged mStallion turbo-petrol and a more powerful 2.2L mHawk diesel powerhouse. The gasoline makes a maximum power of 190bhp with 380Nm of torque and the oil burner has been upgraded to deliver 180bhp power with 360Nm torque.
Transmission
The new XUV500 2021 will be offered in 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox.
Dimension
The length of 2021 XUV500 is expected to be 4620mm, width 1920mm, height 1785mm, wheelbase 2750mm, ground clearance of 200mm and bootspace will be 120L.
Interior
The new-generation XUV500 model will come with a newly-designed dashboard, centre console, steering wheel, twin displays (one for infotainment unit and for the instrument cluster). The model will be inbuilt with level1 autonomous technology i.e. the drive assistance features.
Exterior
The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will feature boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, angular headlamp clusters, flush-fitting door handles and L-shaped taillamp clusters. It is expected to be launched in both 6 and 7 seat configuration. The daytime running lights, the multi-slat grille looks quite familiar to the present variants. The front bumper and bonnet carry sharp design language further enhancing its aggressive exterior.
Ford C-SUV 2021
The Ford Mahindra based C-SUV will share the same internal assembly as Mahindra XUV500 2021. The exterior though has been designed to be more compact and deliver enhanced driving flexibility.
Price
The expected ex-showroom price is Rs 17-25 Lakh.
Engine
It will embodied with the same powerhouse as the XUV500 and Mahindra thar , 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol motor that delivers 187 bhp at 5000 RPM and 380 Nm torque from 1750-4000 rpm. A 2.2L mHawk diesel engine which will deliver 180bhp power and 360Nm torque.
Transmission
The transmission unit will have 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
Interior
The interior of Ford compact suv will be equipped with all standard segment features along with the flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, circular dials for air conditioning and other controls, body-hugging front seats and horizontal AC vents in the centre console.
Exterior
The Ford C-SUV is by Mahindra-owned Pininfarin. The design has been inspired by Ford own CX757 and mid-size SUV Explorer. The exterior is compact and the wheelbase is shorter as compared to XUV500. The massive black front grille has been differently designed with split styled headlamps which gives the C-SUV a futuristic enthralling outlook.
