Tata Gravitas: Tata’s New 7-Seater SUV Powered By 2.0L Turbocharged Kryotec Diesel Engine

Tata is all set to launch the new 7 seater SUV Gravitas by early 2021. Adding to the line of SUV’s by Tata, the motor company has retuned the exterior and interior of the SUV model. It has been built on the same OMEGA architecture platform as the Tata Harrier. The launch of Gravitas gives Tata the lead to own the widest portfolio of SUV in the domestic market of this segment.

Price

The price is expected to be in the range of Rs 18-23 Lakh.

Engine

2.0L Kryotec Diesel Engine


The Gravitas will feature BS6 compliant 1956cc 2.0L Turbocharged diesel engine which is expected to deliver 168PS Power and 350Nm Torque. The Kryotec diesel Engine is inspired by the cryogenic rocket engine for its power and reliability. The 4 cylinder diesel engine encompasses Advanced Electronically Controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT) which ensures excellent power & pickup to take on any terrain. The KRYOTEC comes with Low Friction Valve Train Architecture and an Advanced EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) to deliver exceptional fuel economy and to meet stringent emission requirements.

Transmission

The Gravitas offers two transmission variants 6 speed manual and 6 speed Automatic torque convertor.

Mileage

The Gravitas is expected to give the same mileage as Harrier 14.63-16.35kmpl.

Interior

The overall layout is quite identical with a large floating-type infotainment systemsitting in the middle of the dashboard. It is likely to offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity options. We can also spot the 3-spoke steering wheel with various mounted controls and some wood treatment on the dashboard. The interior too is expected to be similar to that of the Tata Harrier; so, expect provisions such as steering-mounted audio controls, push button engine start, automatic climate control, seven-inch instrument panel, touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, cruise control, etc.

Exterior 



The Tata Gravitas will be based on the company’s OMEGA Arc platform. However, the Gravitas will be longer and taller than its 5-seater Harrier.The front end of the upcoming Gravitas will have the same lighting layout that we have already seen in the Harrier. So the LED DRLs are mounted high up whereas the primary headlights sit lower. The cascading grille with honeycomb mesh give it a tough and masculine front look. The side profile of the new Gravitas is made sporty and stunning by the square wheel arches, black body cladding, and roof rails. Also, the large alloy wheels exhibit the SUV’s great terrain capability. The rear end features include the  large taillight clusters, LED units, and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Dimension

The Tata Gravitas is 4,661mm in length, 1,894mm in width and 1,786mm in height respectively.The wheelbase is 2,741mm.The SUV will have a ground clearance of 200mm. Fuel tank capacity of 50 L.

The Safety features will include the  6 airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program) with 14 additional functionalities including ABS, EBD, Corner stability Control, off-road ABS, traction control, ESC, hill hold control, hill descent control, roll over mitigation, hydraulic brake assist, auto dimming IRVM, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, Fog lamps with cornering function, and others.

Tata is all set to boost its overall demand bracket in the segment of SUV with revolutionary modification to the design language by adaptation of the OMEGA arc platform, powerful but emission stringent diesel engine assembly and advanced terrain capable safety features.
